    The group of Patrick Koelsch focuses on the in situ and in vitro characterization of biofunctional interfaces using in particular laser-based spectroscopy. Experimental techniques include broadband sum-frequency-generation (SFG) and second-harmonic-generation (SHG) spectroscopy as well as UV-Vis, Raman, FTIR, and ellipsometry. Our research areas cover thin films such as DNA and polymeric layers, biofilms, cell adhesion and extracellular matrix, ion-specific effects and spectro-electrochemistry, membrane proteins, and photocatalysis.
